Respiratory diseases of horses

Health is crucial to the overall condition and performance of our horse. Meanwhile, respiratory diseases are affecting more and more horses and are an increasingly common health problem facing horse owners.

Respiratory diseases in horses can have a variety of causes – viral, bacterial, fungal and allergic. Some of the most common conditions include:

  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease ( COPD), also known as RAO ( recurrent airway obstruction) recurrent airway obstruction of an allergic nature, leading to narrowing of the airways and accumulation of mucus, making it difficult for the animal to breathe freely.
  • Bronchitis can be caused by many factors, including viral, bacterial or fungal infections. It manifests itself, among other things. Coughing, shortness of breath and nasal discharge.
  • Pneumonia resulting from a bacterial or viral infection. Untreated, it leads to serious complications.
  • Respiratory allergies are caused by external factors, such as dust floating in the stable and dust mites, but also, for example, pollen in the springtime. The most common allergy symptoms are cough, runny nose and shortness of breath.

There are a number of different ways to treat and prevent respiratory diseases in horses. One of the most effective therapeutic methods is nebulization. The process involves delivering drugs or soothing substances directly into the horse’s respiratory tract using a nebulizer, which sprays the drugs in the form of an aerosol with sufficiently small particles to facilitate their absorption.
